To Chew or Not to Chew

Week 6 of Speed Braces

Eating; an onging challenge
The one thing I wasn't really prepared for about having braces is how hard it is to eat with sore teeth. Some days, even bread is difficult to chew.

Chewy Food Pyramid
I instantly classify all food now not as part of some complicated government nutrition pyramid, but as my own complicated chewing pyramid. It goes something like this:

Certain Death = Granola, carmel apple, peanut brittle
You Must Be Outta Your Mind
= Chips, crackers, nuts, popcorn, pretzels, gum
No Way = bacon, steak, apples(with core and skin), bagels
Good = Pasta, chicken, fish (including lightly breaded), meatballs, bananas, ham, lunch meats, strawberries, pumpkin bread, muffins, eggs
Excellent = Mac-n-cheese, yogurt, ice cream, pudding, applesauce, mashed potatoes, soup

I have to cut everything up with a knife and fork into small pieces in order to eat it, including a burrito or a sandwich. A word of warning; do not eat bread with a lot of mayo! It turns into a gluey paste that takes forever to get off your braces. Also, I drink V8 to help get some veggies in and I have used a juicer to get fruits without the extra sugar in fruit drinks.

Now, time to end this blog and go put some cookies in the oven. Because there's nothing easier to eat (or more wonderful) than a warm chocolate chip cookie.
